Dream location in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park

Three steps from the forest, but miles away from everyday life

There are some places that you find. And others that find you. Hinterzarten belongs to the second category. At 900 metres above sea level, nestled in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park, our hotel is situated where the air grows clearer and your thoughts grow quieter. A climatic spa resort, just 30 minutes from Freiburg – and yet a completely different world. Peace and quiet begins right on your doorstep: silent paths, wide meadows, and forest as far as the eye can see.

A place that does you good

For generations, Hinterzarten has been a beloved destination for people who seek relaxation in nature. The altitude, the crisp air, the mild, invigorating climate – all of this has a beneficial effect without you having to do a thing. Just breathe. Just be. Reppert is right in the heart of it all: surrounded by fir trees, with views of rolling hills, yet just a short walk from the town centre.

Hinterzarten – a place steeped in history

Hinterzarten itself looks back on centuries of history – from a pilgrimage site to a spa resort renowned for its therapeutic climate, from a Black Forest village to a village of Olympic champions.

From “Hinter der Straß” to Hinterzarten

Hinterzarten was founded in 1148. The village used to be called “Hinter der Straß” (behind the road) – the northern part of Breitnau was called “Vor der Straß” (in front of the road). The modern spelling first appeared between 1708 and 1750. In the 13th century, Hinterzarten became a popular pilgrimage site – a spring in the “Schwefelmättle” area was said to have healing properties for eye ailments.

From a summer retreat to a spa resort

The first summer visitors arrived in 1850. In 1887, the Höllentalbahn opened as a tourist railway, opening up the Black Forest Highlands to visitors from all over the world. In 1964, Hinterzarten was designated a “climatic spa resort” – one of only 54 in Germany. The crisp air, the high altitude, the mild, invigorating climate: what drew us here continues to attract visitors to this day.

Village of Olympic champions

The Kirchwaldschanze ski jump was built in 1923, the Adlerschanze ski jump in 1924. Hinterzarten became home to legendary ski jumpers – Georg Thoma, Dieter Thoma, and many more. The Black Forest Ski Museum opened in 1997 in the historic Hugenhof. A small village with big stories.

“Some people ask why we’ve been here since 1935. Once you’ve been here, you’ll understand.”

Reppert is part of this story.
And we continue to write it every day – with every guest who arrives and thinks: “I’m in the right place.”
