Slow living since 1935

Some hotels are just a place to stay. This one is a home.

When was the last time you did nothing and enjoyed it? No schedule, no programme, no obligations. Just a moment that serves no purpose. We’ve been creating moments just like these for 90 years. Reppert isn’t the sort of hotel that follows trends. It’s a hotel that knows what lasts – because four generations have preserved it.

What slow living means to us

Slow living isn’t a programme. It’s a mindset. Less doing, more being. Not faster, but more mindful. At Reppert, that means a breakfast that can stretch right into lunchtime. A stroll with no particular destination. An afternoon by the pool where nothing happens – except for peace and quiet. We believe that relaxation doesn’t have to be organised. It simply happens when you give it space.

Four generations, one feeling

Reppert first opened its doors in 1935. Since then, a lot has grown, some things have changed, but one thing has remained the same: the feeling of being welcome. Four generations have shaped this hotel, each in their own way. What unites them is the belief that hospitality comes from the heart. Not from a manual.

Our history

Numbers can’t capture what goes on at Reppert – the passion for guests, the attention to detail. But they tell the story of a journey that began almost 100 years ago and continues to this day.

1935 – 1950

The beginnings

Elisabeth and Adolf Reppert founded Reppert as a vegetarian guesthouse with 20 beds. A small beginning with a grand vision: a place of relaxation, surrounded by nature. When Adolf Reppert died in 1950, his son Karl-Heinz continued to run the business alongside his mother – and, from 1953, alongside his wife, Gisela. The second generation got on board.

1966 – 1980

The house grows

The first extension was built in 1966: 16 new beds, a lift, a new dining room, and Hinterzarten’s first private indoor swimming pool. In the years that followed, the building was modernised and extended, and the neighbouring property was purchased. 1980 saw a significant step: Elisabeth Reppert handed over the hotel to her son Karl-Heinz. Thomas and Volker, her grandsons – both qualified hotel managers – joined the business. The guesthouse transformed into Hotel Reppert.

1985 – 2002

Wellness is born

The Reppert spa complex was created in 1985 to mark the hotel’s 50th anniversary. What sounds normal today was pioneering work back then. In 1995, the “Vitalis” beauty area was created, winning the Federal Creative Award for the spa. Hotel Reppert was awarded 4-star status. A hotel that’s constantly evolving, without forgetting its roots.

2003 – 2019

Awards and new paths

Stiftung Warentest, Michelin, Relax Guide, Wellness Stars, the “Wanderbares Deutschland” quality seal – the number of awards started growing. In 2007, Reppert became a non-smoking hotel. In 2010, marking the 75th anniversary, we got a new lift, enlarged rooms, new balconies. The WaldFunkeln Lodge opened at Adlerweg 17 in 2019. The fourth generation has long since become part of history: Christine and Jens are carrying on the legacy.

2020 – present

Tradition meets the future

Slow Living Hotel Reppert has once again been awarded a 4-star superior rating. The hotel lobby has being redesigned, the bar and reception have been refurbished, and the sauna area has been expanded to include a salt room and a Finnish sauna. In 2023, the rooms in the central building were given the fresh Reppert design. The new wood-chip heating system came into operation in 2024 – certified under the KlimaWIN Charter. The most energy-efficient year in the hotel’s history. Slow living also means thinking about tomorrow.
